getting caught in the rain without an umbrella? well, i'd been caught twice! in a row. Damn the bloody weather. Keep the rain in Singapore mate! and the sun in Africa! oops. ;-)

Well, tomorrow is 'getai' day again. Got tutorials from 12 to 4. 'Getai' because tutorial were held in classes all over the campus. there's no like ''engineering use these classes, accountancy use those classes''. It applies to lectures too! On the move everyday! but its kinda nice moving around campus, see girls ;-)

I'm shagged!!! worked on my team project from around 3pm to 10pm straight! Man! but it was time pretty well spent. got the circuit working :). now its left for the software guy, Dhiraj to smoothen the program.



Pretty lucky to have this 'Gim Mo' who's actually not a slacker! Very enthusiatic fella! Really hope that i'll get a high score for this!

Lethargic

Very lethargic the past few daysss. Don't seem to have enough sleep even though i had 'at least 7 hours of sleep'.

Tomorrow's timetable is good! tutorial cancelled, means there's only 1 lecture in the morning at 10!

Getting quite pissed off with Singaporeans over here recently. Was seating in the 2nd row for lecture today. lecture has started for about 10 minutes. then this Singaporean guy (from that familiar pair of brooks) came in late, walked to the front row and sat diagonally in front of me, blocking the blackboard, and he's not short. Damn you inconsiderate singaporean!!!

Independent Day

Feeling kinda blue today, rained overnight, but it was cloudy the whole day, and i just heard the thunder clapping. Looks like its going to rain soon...

Failed to hand in a assignment today. Not because i was late or lazy, but i simply don't know how to do. Looked at the questions but don't know how to get going. This is a major problem. Borrowed relevant book from the library. Hope it'll give me some help.

Don't think i'm someone who can study. In a way "forced" into engineering by Singapore's
education system. Got D7 for my O'level english, not much choices after that. so engineering it shall be.

Circle of trust - once you are out, you can't get in anymore. I think this shall be my motto for semester 1. Singaporeans are brought up to be selfish? "新加坡人应该帮新加坡人?" Don't know how true this is over here. far far away in a foreign land. Think i'll need to watch my own back and fend for myself.

Went to city for a breather today... walk walk, see see girls :-) I've long wanted to to pay a visit to the casino in the city! I think the casino has more asians then there are over at chinatown! Kept bumping into asians inside there. Natural habits of asians?

Was watching a game of blackjack where the min. bet was A$25. the table was full! of asians. chinese to be exact. that's where the amazing scenario occured! 6/7 betters got 20 points, except for 1 unlucky fella who got 17. Everyone at the table was so confident of winning against the banker (He's only got 6 on his 1st card). After drawing 4 more cards, guess what! he got 21. Amazing! everyone lost! The casino won a few hundred alone that game. No wonder Singapore wants the IR.

Oldies on walking sticks, Ah Mas, Ah Gongs, tonnes of them were on the jackpot machines. pressing and pressing and pressing. shiok meh? see the pictures spinning and spinning, see until i headache :~ Before i left the jackpot area, i heard a long long coin "refund" sound. "Cling, cling, cling, cling, cling"

Bought lots of biscuits, enough to last me for a couple of weeks. :-) Didn't really spend anytime studying today, couple of hour to be exact. Feeling rather guilty.

A much needed break

Its saturday! tried to study, but was unproductive, so called it off. practically lazing around the whole day, surfing the net, trying to find something to read, watch some stand-up comedies by russell peters, and there! its 11pm already...

Being a student over here ain't fun at all, pressure from home, peers, and most importantly, self induced. Brain's gonna explode soon. A hard nut to crack.

2 weeks left to Mid-Sem exam

Week 5 has finally ended. Time really flies! Hectic day indeed! Need to hand in report by 4pm [i've already completed it last night ;-) ] . Saw loads of people still trying to meet the DEADline in the computer lab. Its worth 10%. Well, actually, total report weightage is 20%, peer assesment is 15%, meeting assesment is 15%, and final product is worth 50%. Every point is important and i MUST score a distinction (GPA 7).

Got to hand in a project report as well as a maths assignment tomorrow. Who says i'm rushing!? i'm been working on them since the beginning of the week! hardworking eh? haha. :-) Being forced under the environment. Don't think i'll be this hardworking when i'm in Singapore.

Drinking water lately as though it's free! (Its free in Aussie) Filling my belly up with at least 3 litres of water daily! don't know why also... to compensate for the low humidity? or just to takeover what should be food? hhaha! Great! Week 5 ending soon, and mid-semester exams are sending shivers down my spine. :-

HEAVY Heavy heavy

46 days in aussie, i've been dragging my feet to school since last week. was feeling rather down. Sigh~

Hair is starting to grow... don't seem to enjoy having my hair long since i got into army. i prefer the 'clean' look. but all do not matter as my hair seems to settle down alright. no bad hair day... if i have 1, means its time to visit the expensive barbers over here.

Its starting to turn warm over here. or is it i'm adapting to the weather already!? think its the former. ;-) i'm too singaporean to be able to adapt to the cod weather. Readings in my school website reads 'max. 27' pretty like much singapore already. time to turn off the radiator!

Blue blue monday

This is my lecture room for 1 of today's lesson - Math2010.

See the guy walking across? Thats my lecturer, Dr Philip Isaac. (sounds cool eh?). Looks like a student thought.... A guy in his late 20s. His a very good lecturer for his age, makes his point through and make sures that everyone understands. He's the only lecturer who appears in tutorials to answer any queries. but unfortunately, he's teaching for 1/2 a semester only.

Listening to the audio form of the national day rally right now... no goodies this year... sigh...
Overseas universties are offering scholarships to local polytechnic students! seems like overseas universities value polytechnic students more than NUS and NTU! Been a singaporean and snubs offer from a local company! kicks ass man!

At home on a sunday

Since i'd stepped foot on this forsaken piece of land, there's nothing to do except to study. RO (Routine Order) for the week simply says.....

0700hrs - reville (monday, tuesday)
0800hrs - study (school, at home)
1800hrs - dinner
2330hrs - lights off

Thats life of a Singaporean (me) who disrupted 3 months from NS (National Saikang), left 4 days after the approved date of disrupt to come over here to study. People might say i chose it. Good luck to me.

Today is Day 44 i'm here. Didn't seem to miss Singapore, something's wrong? Still can't decide on whether to go back to Singapore during the summer holidays... time's running out. Got to make a decision fast! "Be a man, make the right choice!"

Depression

Depression sits inside me. Didn't feel right for the past few days.

Did grocery shopping for the week. wanted to get a weighing machine from K-Mart (think i put on some weight...), but it cost A$30. SO, lets wait for a sale or something.

Groceries include the usual chicken (i think) franks, more minced meat, bread, pasta and some green vegetables. Can foresee what's for dinner for the coming week? Paid for it and off back home. Waited at the bus-stop for 1/2 hour cos its the weekend and buses come every 1/2 hour. The bus journey was about 2 minutes. So, in all took about 40 minutes to reach home. Well... journey on foot would have taken me 15 minutes. Paid A$1.70 for the fare, so, no choice, have to take. I'm a Singaporean. must make full use of the A$1.70. ;-)

Dinner was pasta with minced beef, tomatoes, mushroom, potatoes. accompanied by a 'homebrand' apple pie from woolworths. Great. Today is day 43 i'm here in australia.

Pressure is on. BRING IT ON!

Headache

Hmm... Its been a long time since i've got a headache. Don't know what the hell happened. Had dinner with Kevin over at Hawken drive to de-stress. haha.
Many hiccups here and there. Will be studying overnight! Do some tutorials... eat some M&Ms... drink tonnes of plain water... and listen to music. :-)

Head-ache go away, come again another day, little Eihua wants to study...

well... nothing special happened today! hmm... woke up late cos there's only 1 lecture at 12 for the whole day... Dr. Rajat Majumder from Imperial College, London.

Dinner will be fried bee hoon/ fried rice with chicken nugget. Will be because i'll not be cooking, but will be washing. Gonna start on my report for my team project. Due date is next friday.

Belated post

Created a posting last night, was about completing it when the whole post emptied... can't retrive it ... so, i'l have to start again. a short version of what i've actually typed...

It was Ekka yesterday. A public holiday held annually only in Queensland to celebrate farmer's produce? Besides animals, there were lots of food, local as well as international; rides from roller-coasters to ferris wheel; kiddy game stalls where 1 can win soft toys. Had a great time! took some photos. Some photos because i forgot to charge the battery the night before and it emptied when the fun just started. Damn...

Busy

16th August 2006 is a packed day. events started at 0800hrs and lasted till 2330hrs. Wow!

The day kicked off with a project 1 lab. This is a session where tutors (PhD) students) will be in the lab giving advice, and to answer any questions. Then its lectures till 1300hr.

After that, its a trip to Indooroopilly, a town nearby (nearby as in within the zone, but still need to take a bus) to buy some components for the team project. Bought a off-peak ticket (0900hrs to 1530hrs and after 1900hrs) cos there's another lecture at 4.

The name of the store is 'Dick Smith Electronics'. Had some trouble finding it as it was supposed to be 'near' the Indooroopilly Shopping Centre. Luckily, a friendly petrol kiosk attendant pointed us to the place... it was some 400m away.

Spent some time there inside the store. by the time we (kevin and I) stepped out of the store, it was already 1500hrs. hmm... means we've only 30 minutes to catch our lunch and head back to school, or else the ticket will expire. Hurried back to the shopping centre, went to check on the next available bus timing (1527hrs).Bus stops here shows timings of which the bus will arrive and the drivers were pretty much on time.

still got time to grab some food. Went inside the foodcourt. An Australian foodcourt consists of mac, hungry jacks a.k.a BK, Subway, and stores selling sandwiches, kebabs. Got myself a whooper meal for A$6.35 from hungry jacks. Its good. better than the one in Singapore. Beef patty is so much juicer.

Just completed some component fixing onto the breadboard for project. And NOW is my only free time to blog.

Tomorrow is a public holiday here in Queensland only. Its Ekka. Its a BIG BIG carnival where Queenslanders showcase their domestic animals. A major masar malam. Will be reporting tomorrow? on the event.

Didn't really slept well last night... to be precise, this morning... was tossing and flipping about on bed... Tonnes of thoughts were going round and round inside my brain :-|

Something happened during Stats lecture today. A guy, my friend Eric, went outside to answer a phone call. The lecturer, Dr Pollett, was rather pissed off. "Answering a call is more important than my lecture?" then carried on complaining about the importance between his lecture and a phone call. Then this ang mo fella asked him to define the word "importance". The lecturer went on blabbering. Didn't really caught what he was saying. After his sentence, the ang mo student stood up and left the Lecture theatre. And the lecturer helped to open the door for him. AMAZING! Don't think this will ever happen in Singapore?

Got stuck on how to draw a schematic diagram for my team project. where should i put a resistor? this pin connect to where? then that one to where? Sibei stressed... week 4 le... jialat la... like that how to present sia.... :-(

Eww..

Got up quite late today... IT'S SUNDAY!!! just let me laze around alright!? Brought groceries for the week. The usual stuffs for the 3rd consecutive weeks are... bread, minced meat, luncheon meat,lettuce, milk, forgot to buy eggs. spent a little on lunch! pamper myself with Subway's 'daily special'. costs $3.95 for a sandwich with lots and lots of vege... didn't really eat much vege since i came over here... :) fart's really smelly... can't stand them myself :-P

Got to use Protel to develop a schematic as well as PCB for my team project. What the hell is Protel? been looking over the internet sia... got 1 really good one. Step by step in doing a simple circuit of resistors and capacitors. very good!Got the program through my software engineer to be Dhiraj. He copied and gave the 3 of us EACH a copy of the software. How nice of him...

Tomorrow is the start of week 4. Eww.... thats kind of fast... time didn't slow down to the pace of the australian way of life. got lots of 'copy 1st, understand later' things to do... sigh... thats how i'm been living since day 1.

Geez

Staring at my assignment sheets the whole day, unfortunately, didn't come out with any answers. Still struggling, if this continues any further, i'm afraid i might drown...

Alone the whole day, nothing to do besides the assignments. Can only see them staring and laughing at me. what i can do? laugh back? feeling like a caged bird. i want out! why did i choose this route? week 3 is ending and there's no harvest? wonder if the roots are starting to grow... ?

Tired, Bored, Vexed

End of the day?Nah.... as you can see, room temperature is at a comfortable 29.2 degrees. YES!!! ITS COMFORTABLE in this temperature! Think the 'outside my room' temperature is about 20? If i'm in Singapore, think the figures will exchange.

Bought the Australian version of the Reader's Digest (A$5.99) and found some really interesting advertisements inside!

OMG!!! "FREE WILL KIT with every Funeral Plan"??? Don't think you're EVER see this anywhere in Singapore eh mate? And another 1...

Handing up of assignments here is different from in Singapore? Tutorials are handed up with a cover page. whats so wrong with the cover page? just your name, student id, etc right? NA! It looks something like this!

Pay attention to the bottom part! Its a declaration! Need to certify that your work is the ORIGINAL! means no more copying eh. Plagarism is a serious offence! Applying the SAF 8th core value, everything will go well. Thank you SAF! for once...

Pretty tiring day. lessons from 9 to 4. its almost like this everyday of the week except for thursday where its from 12 to 5. *Sigh* Still lagging quite a distance from the pack. Study hard! There nothing else required mate!

Woohoo

So happy as well as relieved today! My 1st practical lesson in UQ.
Guess what? my group got 93/100!!! woohoo!!! that contributes to 5% of my course! and that works out to be 4.65%. How great can that be?! the marks are there for you to grab! tutors are on hand to guide/help you if you don't know anything. By the way, tutors over here are PhD students. More good news! No practical tests!

MATH2000 tute due tomorrow after the tutorial! gotta run!

Sigh...

Geez... can't watch the ndp online... no idea what happened... is it REALLY that busy? been sitting in front of the screen waiting eagerly for the bloody screen to appear since 2000hrs (GMT+10)... NOTHING! whole load of crap! sack the whole bloody commitee! ... wasted more than 1 hour waiting patiently.

Sigh... since i can't get to watch the last ndp in the National Stadium, think i'd better turn to my lecture notes and do my tutorial. Due dates are approaching!

Being keeping myself updated with Singapore news since the introduction of the internet to my house. Looks like prices for public transport and ERP have increased. Hmm... is this an injection to the economy? haha! At least public transport is affordable here in Brisbane. fares are charged by zones and students and senior citizens get 1/2 price EVERYDAY. Will be celebrating? my 1st National Day overseas. Hope i'll be able to get a good stream when i get hooked on tomorrow for the event. Oh no!!! I've got lessons till 6pm (GMT+10) tomorrow! hope i can make it on time for the parade!

ARGH!!!

Yup! The title says it all. Feeling pretty annoyed. stayed at home during the weekend to study but nothing productive. It has been a y=0 straight line!!! no exponential curves to start with.... ARGH!

Thinking about whether i should return to Singapore during the summer break... Have not come to a conclusion yet but my parents want me back! Not sure what i should do :-

Week 3 begins in a few hours time, unfortunately, my brain has yet to complete formatting. Is it formatting? i don't know. no idea, no clue. Got a team meeting tomorrow with a "shadow" tutor doing the gradings on how the meeting goes... just hate it.

Hope everything will fall into place ASAP! Please! Please! Please!

Feeling rather stressed again... information keeps coming in but i'm not absorbing like sponge.

Its only the 2nd week but i simply can't get the hang of a student's life. :-(
Maybe time will tell if i'm truely fit for studies??

Got 3 Maths related subjects, 1 Power related subject and 1 team project for this semester and 24 hours doesn't seem enough for me. Can any kind person out there donated some of your time to me???!!!! Maybe i should limit my time on blogging to the weekends?

The team project is abouting building and programming a replicator game. Coincidentally, i know 2 of my team members while the other 1 was a local software enginneer whom i think is a genius! he programmed his 1st game at the age of 9! can you believe it!

Well, its tough studying after serving the bloody nation. Maybe we should scrap this crazy idea of NS? :-x
